Reminder kind

Remember to call people back

You said you would ring them back. You meant it at the time. A call reminder holds the person, the number and the reason together, so the callback happens on the day you promised rather than three days later with an apology in front of it.

Two different things, both with the word call in them

A call reminder is a kind of reminder: remind me to ring this person. You make the call. A phone call reminder is a delivery channel: Timelee rings your phone so the reminder reaches you. This page is about the first one. If you want Timelee to place a real phone call to you at the reminder time, that lives on phone call reminders instead.

How a callback actually gets lost

Almost nobody forgets a call at the moment of promising it. It dies a few hours later, in one of these three ways.

  • It was a missed call at a bad time

You saw it during something else, thought later, and later arrived with nine other things attached to it. The missed-call badge cleared itself the next time you opened the dialler.

  • It went into a to-do list without the number

Call Sam is a fine task until Thursday, when calling Sam means finding which Sam, opening a different app and scrolling a contact list while the window of a reasonable hour closes.

  • It missed the only hour that worked

The surgery takes calls before 11:00. The supplier answers between 08:00 and 16:00. A reminder at 19:00 is not a reminder, it is a note that you have lost another day.

Setting a call reminder

Four decisions, and the last two are the ones that decide whether the call actually happens.

  1. Choose the person

Pick a contact from your phone, or add a new one with the number typed in. The number travels with the reminder rather than living somewhere you will have to go and look.

  2. Say what it is about

Not ring back, but ring back about the second invoice. The title is what you will read in eleven seconds while deciding whether to do it now.

  3. Pick a time they will answer

Set it inside the hours the person is actually reachable. This is the single biggest reason callbacks slip, and it costs you nothing to get right at the moment you are making the promise.

  4. Decide how hard it should push

Most callbacks are a plain alarm. The one that decides a deal, a tenancy or a diagnosis can escalate instead, so it does not quietly get swiped at 10:03.

The number is already there when it rings

The gap between a reminder and a completed call is usually about fifteen seconds of friction: open contacts, search, pick the right one of three entries, dial. Fifteen seconds is enough for something else to intervene, and then the callback moves to tomorrow.

Because a call reminder is built around a contact, the number arrives with the prompt. The reminder is the shortest route to the call rather than a note telling you to go and find it. Life event reminders work the same way — save a birthday with the person's number and the reminder is also the way you ring them.

  • Pick from your contacts, or add a new one on the spot
  • The number is attached to the reminder, not looked up later
  • The title carries the reason, so you do not have to reconstruct it
  • Works as a one-off, or on a repeat for a weekly check-in call

The controls that make callbacks stick

A call reminder takes the same settings as anything else in Timelee. These are the four that matter most for calls specifically.

  • A pre-alarm before the window closes

A heads-up thirty minutes before the surgery stops taking calls is more useful than a reminder at the moment it does.

  • Pinch Me for the ones you keep dodging

Timelee's nag setting re-rings on an interval instead of once. Some calls need to keep coming back until you have actually made them.

  • Priority you can sort by

Switch the dashboard to the priority view and the day's calls regroup into First, Then and Later rather than sitting in clock order.

  • A record of who you rang

Completed call reminders stay in history, which answers the question of whether you did chase the client on the 3rd without relying on memory.

  • Standing calls, set once

The Monday check-in and the monthly supplier call repeat on the days you pick, so they stop needing to be re-created.

  • When it must not be missed

Delivery is chosen per reminder, so the call that cannot slip can escalate to a real phone call to you while the rest stay quiet.

Questions about call reminders

Does Timelee make the call for me?

No. A call reminder reminds you to ring somebody, with their number attached. Timelee placing a real call is a separate feature — a delivery channel that rings your phone so the reminder reaches you. You are still the one who speaks to the person.

Can I set a call reminder for a number that is not in my contacts?

Yes. You can add a new contact with the number as you create the reminder, rather than having to save it elsewhere first.

Can a call reminder repeat?

Yes. Use the everyday, weekdays or weekends presets, or switch on individual days, for a standing check-in call. You can also set it to end after a number of repeats or after a date.

What if I keep dismissing it?

Turn on Pinch Me, Timelee's nag setting. Instead of ringing once, the reminder re-rings on an interval — every 5, 15 or 30 minutes, hourly, or daily — and some of those settings keep going until you mark it done.

Can I make Timelee ring somebody else to remind them?

Yes, but that is the phone call delivery feature rather than a call reminder, and the number has to be verified by its owner with a one-time code first. Nobody can point an automated call at a stranger.

Put the callback somewhere it will survive the afternoon

The person, the number, the reason and an hour they will actually answer. Set once, at the moment you make the promise.
